How to Use Japanese Partner 2000

Tutorial

Japanese Partner itself is not a word processor, but it enables the input, display, and output of Japanese characters in Windows applications (such as MS Word). The following are instructions on how to input Japanese in a document.

  1. Start an Application

Start an application such as Word, WordPad, or Excel that you intend to use Japanese.  In this tutorial, we will use MS Word 2000 as an example. To start MS Word 2000, click  the MS Word2000 program in the Start>>Programs list.

  1. Start Japanese Partner 2000

Click the Japanese Partner icon  to start the TwinBridge Japanese system. When activated, the Japanese Partner displays its Control Center as a floating button group.

  1. Select a Japanese Font

As an example, use a Unicode font such as “TSC JpnMinCho S TT.”  Note that all TwinBridge Unicode fonts are prefixed with "TSC."

  1. Activate Input Prompt Line

Click the input switch button on the Control Center to activate the input prompt line as shown below.

  1. Select an Input Method

Select an input method to begin input Japanese characters

We will use Roma-Kanji input method. If the current input method is not Roma-Kanji, click the input method control button to select the input method your want.

Please also make sure the padding space control button  is pressed down

(white background). This will ensure that Chinese characters wrap around properly at the end of a line.

Work in Unicode mode

Activate the Post Unicode to Office97/2000 function: Click the Input Method button on the Input Prompt Line, and then click "Post Unicode to Office 97/2000" from the pop-up list. Make sure the check mark Ö is displayed.

Start MS Word and select a Japanese Unicode font from the Font list (for example, "TSC JpnMinCho S TT").

Hot Keys:

Press the Ctrl+Up/Down (or Shift+Ctrl+Up/Down) keys to scroll through the available input methods. To switch between Japanese and English mode,

use the Ctrl+Left (or Shift+Ctrl+Left) key combination.

  1. Input Japanese Text

To input the characters (nihonngo) using Roma-Kanji:

Enter ni (in lowercase only), press the SPACE BAR and the character selections will appear on the Input Prompt Line as shown. Since we are inputting a phrase, there is no need to select a character just yet.

Continue to enter the Romaji honngo to obtain the desired phrase:

Select the phrase by pressing the number or function key corresponding

to the number to the left of the phrase you want ( number 1 in this example ).

You can also use the SPACE BAR to pick the first occurrence.

The phrase in Japanese is now displayed in the application.
